RETROACTIVE CONSIGNING PEATREE!!

Hello all!

So, we know we've both been AWOL for a while, but for good reasons! Between the two of us, in the midst of both studying and last minute packing, we finished off the Peatree Bob Sample Sales! A big hug and thanks to everyone who came out to support us and make the whole event a success. And even more love to our families who actually had to live with us during those hectic days. (sorry for leaving the big mess behind momma-bear) We promise to be good children and take care of ourselves along our journeys; C continuing her playtime with beakers and anatomies and scalpels (probably not getting enough SLEEP keeping up with labs), and G battling the sweltering subways sardined with strangers on a daily basis.

As most of you may know, due to the distance and time difference, we have decided to put little Peatree on hold for a tad. But if your still craving some new super vintage jackets, wild shoes, and warm scarves for the fall, check out our winter items at RETROACTIVE CLOTHING CONSIGNMENT. Available now!

Until next time...

lots of love,

G & C

p.s. you know your ready for fall if you're rocking a limited ed. TOAST TEE.

OUTDOOR CLOTHING/ART/MUSIC EVENT

photography - Gillian Staples
photo editing and poster design - Camila Sanchez
model - Courtenay Meade

Acquisition, agglomeration, anthology, assemblage, assembly, assortment

C and G finalized the press release for the Peatree event on July 17-18 and sent it off to a couple editors this afternoon...completely fueled by caffeine, the upcoming Los Rastrillos show at the Waverly, Mos Def's new album Ecstatic, and corn nuts. Here's what was sent off to the papers!!

Peatree Bob Apparel is a local clothing company with vintage and handmade pieces for men, women, and children. After a successful online sample sale in early spring, Peatree Bob Apparel is holding an outdoor public event on July 17-18, including live musical entertainment. The event will feature a new line of t-shirts, debuting an original collection by New York painter Andrew Birk (www.andrewbirk.com). Works by local young artists will be on display for purchase.

Peatree Bob Apparel was founded by Camila Sanchez and Gillian Staples in 2005, at the ages of 16 and 15. While still at Georges P. Vanier, they completed a fashion merchandising program at the Art Institute of Vancouver where the idea of Peatree Bob began to develop. Gillian and Camila were drawn to the idea of starting a company that offered one-of-a-kind clothing pieces that used no new resources in their production. As part of their current work with Peatree Bob Apparel, they regularly act as stylists, photographers, and creative directors for photoshoots with local models.

Gillian will be moving to New York in the fall to continue an internship in fashion photography, while Camila will be attending UVIC in the fall to finish her pre-med degree in biochemistry.

For more details on the July 17-18 event, visit the Peatree Bob Apparel blog at www.peatreebob.blogspot.com or email peatree.bob@gmail.com.

self-timer

In the middle of a business meeting at our usual coffeeshop table....an Americano for C and a pot of vanilla blah blah tea for G. Getting inspired for our upcoming sale...EXCITING...G came back with a complete summer collection of sunglasses from New York, we've just seen preview shots of Andrew Birk's line of t-shirts.

We've decided....IT'S FINAL....on July 17 and 18 we will be holding the Peatree Bob sample sale PART II offline and on location. This two day event will be a mad mix of our vintage collections for men, women, and children, artwork, photography, vintage furniture, talented local musicians and many more ideas in the works.

For now, we're hungry and off to the Thrifty's bulk aisle for oriental rice crackers and chocolate covered anything. Excited to see T.Grey on Sunday, excited to be finished with the spring semester of A&P, excited for an Indian summer.

Day at the Met

Two days ago I went to the Met to see the 'MODEL AS MUSE' exhibit. Perhaps due to all the buildup of excitement from magazines, newspapers...quotes from designers and blogs saying how beautiful and spectacular it was...I came out a little disappointed.

The first thing that shocked me were the clothes chosen for display. I was excited to hear the designs ranged from Donna Karan to Yves Saint Laurent, but most of the pieces shown were not even near the designers' best works. Many were not timeless or beautiful in any way, and two dresses erased my anger for the 'no photography' rule. With that said, there were a few breathtaking, and interesting dresses, but just not enough to make up for the other disasters.

Then there were the walls....In one room, the iconic names; ' Naomi, Verushka, Linda, Natalia, Kate..etc' were spray painted in consistently messy graffiti - overwhelming every square inch of the dimly lit space. Seeming to attempt/re-invent the Steven Sprouse for Louis Vuitton print, it just didn't seem to go well with the classy, historical Vogue covers that were framed throughout.
The one photo that stood out to me the most was a b&w of Linda Evangelista.
Le diable au corps" - Vogue Paris August 1989 - Steven Meisel. The dark furrowed brows, odd pose, masculine/slick hair, ultra sexy...This shot, even the entire editorial done twenty years ago could be in a magazine today, and not look out of place.

All of the other work at the Met has been incredible! Even though we spent over three hours there, we barely covered a quarter of the museum. With sculptures from ancient Egypt and Greece, to paintings by Chuck Close and Van Gogh, I think its safe to say the Met is a minimal 5 day trip to soak in all it has to offer.

I was really drawn to this painting...really beautiful( The Vistula 1977-78, Die Weichsel)

For those Andy Warhol lovers...(General Mao)

PLUS. admission is by donation! I'm a total cheapskate, but paid the recommended $10 and still felt I got a deal.

Exclusive P.Bob-Andrew Birk Collabo

Hi

It had been a while since our last post, but as I began writing this one, it turned into critic review for the met's 'model as muse' exhibit. I thought it would be best to seperate a show review from a journal entry.

The days, of course, have been racing past me. I feel as if I've been here forever as I go about my day-to-day routines, but, with the amount of work I need to finish here, its as if I've just arrived. With only a week left of my stay, I have still yet to accomplish a few peatree projects and hopefully fill up on 'pink berry' frozen yogurt so I don't crave it every hour when i get back home.

I made a trip to andrew's studio the other day and got a sneak peak at a current project hes working on. He had only begun it that day, it already looked and felt both psychotic and beautiful...which made me not able to stop looking about it for a while.

I'm SO eager to see the T-shirts...and even more excited to bring them to the valley! They will be a very limited specialty item with only 10 available (from S-XL) through Peatree Bob Apparel for purchase. Check out Andrew Birk's Paintings at http://www.andrewbirk.com/

some of my favorites of his work...

Coming this summer, even bigger and better, PEATREE BOB SAMPLE SALE PT. 2 this round including menswear and kidswear...and FEATURING New York artist Andrew Birk switching to a wearable canvas for an exclusive Peatree Bob collection of painted Tee's.

time TIMETIME

It's 18 hours until the sample sale begins, and I think we have about 40 hours of work to do.

Of course, I still have to finish shooting all the menswear, purses, scarves and women's shirts before I transfer all the large files to a flash drive that will probably be too small...then look around for more flash drives...hmm but I think I only have one other one...poo...
The only thing keeping me going is the 'happy lamp' that I have on next to me while I shoot...Its one of those wide, flattish lamps that you can rent from a pharmacy, prescriptioned to those who have SAD (seasonal affective disorder) ..it really works! ...Coming down with a cold, so I made myself some lemon-ginger tea. Moma B bought 12 boxes of tea because they were cheap at Liquidation World, so I've gotta use them up. I can't think too well, and my contacts are going all dry in my eyeballs.
I will go to bed....in a few hours..HOPEFULLY..yes.

C has really been a wizard with the computor, and created beautiful title pages for each album (to be seen tomorrow) and is probably not going to sleep, with a Calculus exam tomorrow to study for...integrals and trig substitutions and polar graphs till the br-break of dawn.

Tomorrow...it all begins! See you on the flip side.
